Climate change is happening
Climate change represents one of the greatest environmental, social and economic threats facing the planet. Especially the younger generations need to learn to live sustainably in order to counteract climate change and subsequent environmental problems, since they are likely to experience the effects of climate change much more than we do today.
By now approaches for introducing climate change issues in the educational field are still scattered in different European countries. Content wise school education has rather concentrated on the “traditional” environmental elements such as water, energy, waste and increasingly also on the rather cross-cutting theme of climate change.
Schools have a great potential to familiarise students with what is known today so they become aware of the causes of climate change and understand what they can do to change it.
